About the Program
The Sensitive Choice® is a program managed by the National Asthma Council Australia.
More than 2 million Australians are affected by asthma and more than 9 million are affected by allergies. With so many people affected by asthma and allergies, the National Asthma Council Australia identified a need to assist Australians to identity products that are not harmful and will not trigger or increase asthma and/or allergy symptoms.
Prior to Sensitive Choice® there was no nationally consistent, formal assessment of products. There could be conflicting advice from a range of sources.
At the National Asthma Council Australia, we felt it was important to help dispel some of the myths about asthma and allergy triggers, and to provide reliable guidance for people with asthma and/or allergies and their families.
The Sensitive Choice® program was developed to assist the marketing of products which may benefit people with asthma and allergies, where those products are supplied by manufacturers or suppliers who sponsor the work of the National Asthma Council. The Sensitive Choice® logo of a blue butterfly helps people to easily identify products and services that may reduce asthma and allergy triggers.
Through a partnership between the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation of New Zealand and the National Asthma Council Australia, New Zealanders are also able to benefit from the program.
Currently in its fourth year, the Sensitive Choice® program continues to grow with hundreds of products and services now included in the program.
The National Asthma Council Australia uses the sponsorship fees generated through the Sensitive Choice® program to support asthma care through our ongoing important work.
