The Sensitive Choice® program assists the marketing of products which may benefit people with asthma and allergies. It is represented by a butterfly to help consumers easily identify products and services that may reduce asthma and allergy triggers.
More than 2 million Australians have asthma and 9 million have allergies, making Sensitive Choice® program participation a valuable point of difference for your product.
Our research indicates that Australians and New Zealanders are finding the Sensitive Choice® program to be a useful and reliable guide. Consumer awareness continues to grow as the program matures.
If you have a product or service that has a potential benefit (and is not harmful) for people with asthma and/or allergies, you may consider applying to participate in the Sensitive Choice® program.
How it Works
For an overview of the application and review process, see Application and Approval Process
| 1. | You must be able to demonstrate that your product is not harmful and that there is research or evidence to demonstrate a potential benefit for people with asthma and/or allergies. |
| 2. | Each product/service is assessed and considered by an independent (and voluntary) Product Advisory Panel. |
| 3. | There is a standard application form and the applicant must supply as much credible evidence as possible to substantiate the asthma/allergy benefit or claim. |
| 4. | All applications are confidential and each member of the Product Advisory Panel is required to declare any conflict of interest prior to the Product Advisory Panel meeting. The Panel members do not meet with the applicant. |
| 5. | If a product is recommended by the Panel, the applicant may then be offered a Participation and Sponsorship Agreement by the National Asthma Council, with agreed annual sponsorship fees. There are separate fees for Australia and New Zealand. |
| 6. | Exclusive sponsorship categories may be available. |
| 7. | If a category is not currently available due to an existing exclusive sponsorship arrangement, there is a registration process that provides you with the opportunity to apply if the category becomes available in future. |
| 8. | The Sensitive Choice® program is not an accreditation program. It is a marketing program whereby products are assessed by an Advisory Panel and if recommended for participation in the program, applicants may be offered a Participation and Sponsorship Agreement by the National Asthma Council. |
| 9. | Participation in the Sensitive Choice® program does not represent that the product or service is the best or better than others in a category, simply that the product is acceptable and not harmful based on the evidence available. |
Our Commitment to Promoting Sensitive Choice®
Advertising and promotion campaigns are conducted throughout the year to help grow public awareness of the Sensitive Choice® program. This consists of regular activities such as TV, magazine and newspaper advertising.
All Sensitive Choice® partners are offered the opportunity to feature their participating product on the Sensitive Choice® website.
Additionally, the National Asthma Council Australia and the Asthma & Respiratory Foundation of New Zealand develop regular cooperative advertising programs in which partners can participate.
All partners are expected to conduct their own independent promotion and advertising of their product’s participation in the Sensitive Choice® program.
